Global Lab is refining its collaboration-based learning platform for both science classes and citizen scientists worldwide. Leveraging cloud services, social networking, and crowdsourcing, the web-delivered platform is serving as a technology framework for a new generation of curriculum and learning tools. The solution engages learners in investigations and datasourcing projects, building both content mastery and key process skills. For several years, Global Lab has been piloted successfully in 400 middle-school science classrooms throughout the Russian Federation and countries of the former USSR. Going forward, it will offer such innovations as enabling learners to measure and upload data from their smartphones directly into the project's databases for storing, sharing, visualization, and analysis.
